Career Prospects for “Marine Engineer”
After the cadets complete the four year “Marine Engineering” course and a four-Modular course successfully, the student is eligible, to be appointed as Junior Engineer on Merchant Ships. On completion of the stipulated period on ships and after passing the required competency Examination conducted by the Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India or “Marine” Administration of other governments, the Engineer becomes a Chief Engineer of a ship within 5 to 6 years.
“Marine Engineering” course + 4 Modular Courses = Junior Engineer salary 1000 USD pm
6 Months Sea Service as a junior engineer + 3 Months course + passing in class IV Exam=Forth Engineer (2700 USD/ m)
12 month sea service + 4 month course + passing in class II Exam=Second Engineer (salary5700USD/m)
18 month sea service + 2 Month course + passing class I Exam=Chief engineer (salary 8000USD/m)

Average Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics & 50% in English Subject
either in 10th or 12th Standard.
