A chief steward is in charge of inventory management in his department.
He takes stock of kitchen items and places orders to replenish the ones that are broken or lost.
Examples of kitchen items include plates, glasses, spoons, knives and cups.
A chief steward works closely with the catering unit to ensure that there s enough inventory to meet demand and to ensure that everything comes in on budget.
He also handles orders of items stored in the pantry, such as dairy products, meat and eggs.
