You don’t have to be a resident of the posh Harrington Road to head to Viv’s . People from all over the city, flock to this restaurant, which resembles a makeshift roadside teashop, with its wooden ceiling, crummy walls and a small space filled with six tables. And, if you do a quick survey, you pick up on the fact that most come here to tuck into Viv’s beef chilli fry. This hot favourite turns out to be just tiny slices of fried beef tossed around with bits of capsicum, onion and chilli. It is frankly delicious. Students, young working professionals and couples stream in either to chomp on a quick bite of chicken lollipop, the chilli beef, lamb garlic fry with the fried rice (this is another hot one) or the hot naans. There’s a tandoori stuffed version with pieces of tandoori chicken and kebabs. The prices are reasonable as you can get a plate of beef for just Rs 45 and the soups for Rs 30. Regulars like DJ Craig, pop in to pick up their order quite often. According to Viv’s owner L Yuvaraj, who has nearly 15 years of experience in the city’s hotel kitchens, takeaways by the residents of Spur Tank, Harrington and Sterling road form a major portion of his business. Viv’s, which opened its doors in September 1994, has slowly built up a loyal clientele attracted by its no–frills, tasty meat tossed up with the right amount of spices! Head here for a party!
