The polytechnic was established in 1980 with a certificate course in Library Science and Radio & TV Technology. The first diploma course in Chemicol Engg. (Pulp & Paper Technology) was started in the year 1983. The stotus of the polytechnic became grant-in-aid w.e.f. 1 April, 1990.
