Chemist in a leather testing role is responsible for analyzing the chemical composition and properties of raw hides, finished leather, and related materials. They perform various tests to ensure quality, identify defects, and develop new processing methods. Their work is crucial in the leather industry, as it impacts product quality, safety, and environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities:
Sample Preparation:
Preparing samples for testing, ensuring accurate representation of the material being analyzed.
Analytical Testing:
Performing a variety of chemical tests, such as pH, moisture content, and chemical resistance, using laboratory equipment and techniques.
Data Interpretation:
Analyzing test results and interpreting them to determine the quality and characteristics of the leather.
Troubleshooting:
Identifying and resolving problems related to chemical processes or product defects.
Quality Control:
Monitoring and maintaining quality standards in leather processing and manufacturing.
Research and Development:
Contributing to the development of new leather processing methods, finishes, and materials.
Documentation:
Maintaining accurate records of testing procedures, results, and findings.
Skills and Qualifications:
Chemical Knowledge: Strong understanding of organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and analytical chemistry.
Laboratory Skills: Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and performing analytical tests.

Problem-Solving: Ability to identify and solve problems related to chemical processes and product defects.

Education: Bachelor 's or Master 's degree in Chemistry or related field.
