According to the epic Ramayana, Ayodhya is believed to be the birthplace of Lord Ram, the seventh avatar of Lord Vishnu. There are numerous places to visit in Ayodhya which includes famous temples, monuments, and holy ghats Guptar Ghat: Situated on the banks of river Saryu, this is the very spot where Lord Rama performed Jal Samadhi. King Darshan Singh constructed it in the early 19th century. One can also visit Ram Janaki Temple, Old Charan Paduka Temple, Narsingh Temple and Hanuman Temple on the ghat. Ram mandir: The building of the Ram temple in Ayodhya fulfils a decades-long Hindu nationalist pledge. Many Hindus believe the Babri mosque was built by Muslim invaders on the ruins of a temple where the Hindu god was born. The movement to build the temple helped propel the BJP into political prominence in the 1990s.
