Design & Drafting Engineer SolidWorks Drawings Job Description The SolidWorks Design Engineer in Manufacturing Industries is responsible for creating, analyzing, and optimizing advanced 3D parametric models, complex assemblies, sheet metal designs, and precision production drawings using SolidWorks for manufacturing equipment, tooling, and industrial components. Working closely with R&D, mechanical engineering, tool room, and shop-floor production teams, this role translates engineering specifications and concepts into robust, manufacturing-ready designs while ensuring structural integrity, cost efficiency, and compliance with international engineering standards. Key Duties Use SolidWorks to design detailed parametric 3D models, complex mechanical assemblies, motion mechanisms, and manufacturing drawings (part drawings, assembly drawings, and exploded views). Perform structural, thermal, and kinematic analyzes to assess component strength, stress distribution, and serviceability using SolidWorks Simulation (FEA) and motion analysis. Apply correct Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) principles, surface finishes, fits and material specifications appropriate to shop manufacturing processes (CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, plastic injection molding, casting and welding). Collaborate with mechanical engineers and tool designers to integrate design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles into all CAD models. Manage Engineering Change Notices (ECNs), design revisions, Bill of Materials (BOM), and CAD file archiving within Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) or ERP systems. Verify dimensional accuracy, interference checks, collision detection, and clearance tolerances on complex machine assemblies prior to physical fabrication.
